Description

Under 23 U.S. Code §503(b), Highway Research and Development Program, the Secretary of the Department of Transportation is directed to carry out highway research and development that addresses current and emerging highway transportation needs. The objectives of the Highway Research and Development (HRD) Program are: (A) identify research topics; (B) coordinate research and development activities; (C) carry out research, testing, and evaluation activities; (D) provide technology transfer and technical assistance; (E) engage with public and private entities to spur advancement of emerging transformative innovations through accelerated market readiness; and (F) consult frequently with public and private entities on new transportation technologies.
